On February 1, 1899, Lina Henle founded the NABU in Baden-Württemberg, creating the Bird Protection Association.
As NABU President Jörg-Andreas Krüger points out, the work of the organization has become more important than ever. Even after 125 years, environmental protection still continues to be at odds with economic interests, with the result that our forests are being cut down, rivers and soils poisoned, and the air polluted.

NABU currently has 970,000 members and more than 2,500 district and city organizations throughout Germany. This makes it the oldest and largest organization not only in Germany but also in the whole Europe.
NABU is not only visible throughout Germany, but the organization, opening branches outside the country, contributes to the implementation of a number of environmental programs in the Caucasus, Central and South-East Asia, and Africa.
NABU has been working in Armenia since 2001, and in 2010 it officially opened its branch office here.
