A Black Vulture's Nest Has Been Discovered

During the works carried out by the branch of German Nature Protection Union (NABU) in the Republic of Armenia within the framework of the programme "Birds of Prey Research and Conservation Programme in Armenia", a nest of black vulture was discovered in Vayots Dzor region.

It should be noted that in the 1987 Red Book such a case was described in Vayots Dzor region only once, but there is no mention of nesting.

Black Vulture (Aegypius monachus);

  • listed in the Red Book of RA as a rare species, the number of which is noticeably decreasing,
  • It is classified as an endangered species according to the criteria of the IUCN Red List.
  • the bird species is preserved in the state reserve "Khosrov Forest", where it regularly nests.

Protection of the bird species is very important; causing damage to it entails administrative and criminal liability.
