The results of the first phase of the three competitions of the Rural Tourism Programme have been summarized. Interviews with participants who passed the second phase and, if necessary, visits to guesthouses/gastroyards by members of the jury will take place soon.
The "Green Hotel" and "Become a Green Hotel" competitions have reached the second phase:

During the evaluation phase of the ‘Green Hotel’ competition applications, the sustainable environmental management technologies implemented in the guesthouses and their environmental policies were taken into account, including:
- availability of a wastewater treatment system,
- recycling of water,
- use of renewable energy sources,
- use of water-saving and energy-saving technologies,
- waste sorting,
- consumption of local food,
- participation in environmental or environmental education activities.
For the ‘Become a Green Hotel’ competition, the compliance of the submitted project structure with the principles of sustainable environmental management was taken into account.
In the evaluation phase of the entries for the ‘Best Gastroyard’ competition, consideration was given to:
- representation of local culture and cuisine in gastroyards,
- the use of local products, especially those produced in-house,
- application of sustainable natural resource utilization technologies, including measures aimed at reducing food waste,
- co-operation with the community.
As a reminder, one of the key conditions of both tenders was that they must be owned and managed by local residents and have at least 5 rooms.
The Competitions are held within the framework of the Rural Tourism Development programme implemented by the branch of German Nature Protection Union (NABU) in the Republic of Armenia and the ACBA Federation.
