Considering that the bird of the year, the White-tailed Eagle, is a rare species in Armenia, please inform us immediately as soon as you spot this bird; extremely preferably with a suitable photo or video, as well as coordinates.
And how to recognize it?
- The White-tailed Eagle has a powerful, large beak and a short, bluntly pointed tail.
- An adult White-tailed Eagle is distinguished by its distinctive white tail,
- young and adults with light-colored croup and light-colored rudder feathers with dark stripes.
With age, the plumage of the bird's head, shoulders and breast gradually changes to lighter colors.
It should also be noted that the white-tailed eagle
- is registered in the Red Book of the RA,
- is year-round guest,
- the last registration was in spring 2023 in Gegharkunik region.
- It is usually found in open water spaces near trees, in river valleys, in floodplains.
- Its food is mainly fish and other vertebrates, carrion.
Recall that as a result of public voting, the White-tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) was chosen as the bird of the year 2024.
