Dear bird lovers!
We are pleased to announce the results of the Bird of the Year 2024 voting. here is the final picture:
- White-tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla): 33,8%
This is who the first place belongs to. Your votes have made this magnificent bird the symbol of 2024.
- Blue-cheeked bee-eater (Merops persicus): 18,4%
The Blue-cheeked bee-eater earned its place of honor as an outstanding contender, earning the admiration of many bird lovers.
- The Common wood pigeon (Columba palumbus): 18,3%
A round of applause for the Common wood pigeon for earning a place of honor at this year's competition.
- Armenian Gull (Larus armenicus): 16,9%
The Armenian Gull won the hearts of voters by leaving its mark in the top five contenders.
- Baloban (Falco cherrug): 12,6%
Last but not least, this bird species deserves recognition for finding its place in this year's diverse collection.
Thank you to each of you who participated in the voting, helping to make this important event possible. Let's continue to appreciate and protect our feathered friends, ensuring a bright future for bird species.
We also express our special gratitude to the volunteers of the organization for conducting active campaigns in Yerevan and the regions.
It should be noted that the voting was held in 2 stages: in the first stage, Facebook and Instagram users proposed 33 species of birds of Armenia, which were voted for on social platforms and during a number of events. Out of the 33 bird species, the already mentioned 5 bird species with the highest number of votes made it to the second round.
During the 2nd stage, which lasted from October 25 to November 15 inclusive, the volunteers of the organization walked the streets of the districts and Yerevan, conducting surveys among passers-by. The organization also held an information meeting on five candidate bird species.
The goal of the annual ecological-educational campaign "Bird of the Year" is to choose a bird species that symbolizes the year and draw the attention of the public to the importance of protecting this species and its habitat.
