Golden Eagle continues to stay in Armenia

In 2024, we marked a young golden eagle in Armenia. According to the information transmitted by the satellite sensor, the bird demonstrates classical behavior, spends most of its time in the vicinity of the place of birth, sometimes moving away to a distance of up to 60 km, and then returns again. Golden eagles are characterized by a strong attachment to their place of birth. It is known that these are very territorial birds, which mainly protect the areas adjacent to their nests in a certain radius and do not let other birds of prey close to them. Very young males sometimes make short trips away from their birthplace before reaching puberty, and then choose a mate, a nesting site and stay in this place.

Interestingly, our colleagues from Kazakhstan recently installed a satellite sensor on a young golden eagle, and the results showed that the bird went into hibernation quite far south of its nesting site, demonstrating migratory behavior.

It should be recalled that in 2023, the saxifrage was recognized as the bird of the year in Armenia, within the framework of which a number of research works were carried out, which we continue to screen to this day.
