State Reserves

Protected Areas in the Republic of Armenia are classified.

  • by their significance as: international, national and local importance specially protected natural areas.
  • by their status as: state reserve, national park, state sanctuary and natural monument.

On the territory of the state reserve it is forbidden:

  • use of water resources through water systems and any activity that violates the water regime,
  • construction and operation of economic and residential facilities, roads, pipelines, power lines and other means of communication, except for the construction of facilities necessary for the functioning of the state reserve (forester's hut, barrier, boundary marker, etc.),
  • disturbance of habitats of representatives of flora and fauna,
  • hunting, fishing,
  • introduction and use of new species of animals and plants, genetically modified organisms (species) obtained through biotechnology, as well as any work carried out to increase or decrease the number of individual species,
  • harvesting of plants, flowers, fruits and seeds, as well as gathering of collections intended for scientific research on the territory of the Reserve,
  • deforestation, grazing, haymaking and other disturbances of the vegetation cover, except in cases of,
  • the use of pesticides to protect plants, as well as the use of mineral fertilizer,
  • production, use and storage of radioactive substances and waste, as well as other substances dangerous or toxic to human health and the environment,
  • geological exploration works causing disturbance of the soil cover,
  • exploitation of mineral deposits, mining of minerals, placement of mineral processing facilities,
  • movement and parking of motorized and tracked equipment off the road network or in places not designated for this purpose, off public roads and waterways,
  • any other activity that destroys natural systems and objects or threatens their preservation.

The following forms of use are allowed in state reserves:

  • scientific research of natural ecosystems, biodiversity, landscapes, natural heritage, accounting, inventory, monitoring,
  • օrganization of educational tourism along the routes defined by the management plans of the state reserve,
  • carrying out educational practice in educational institutions,
  • pastures and beekeeping on areas allocated for the needs of the state reserve and its employees in accordance with the procedure established by the authorized state body.
